Linda attended Philippine Women’s College (PWC) in Davao. It was nearby, so she would return home to have lunch. Before eating she would slip out of her white starched uniform so the maid could iron it ready for afternoon classes.
While at school, Linda featured as the drummer in the pop group “The Pearlettes”. The group disbanded (pun noted) and Linda has often wondered what happened to the drum kit. Only recently did her brother Boy admit that he had surreptitiously sold them to pay the hospital bills of a pedestrian he had knocked down.
In fact Boy was a bit of a playboy in those days. He would often plan to stay out later than he would like his parents to know. So he would tie a string to Linda’s toe and feed it out the window to the ground below. On arriving home in the early hours of the morning, he would simply pull the string to wake Linda up so she could unlock the door.
Linda graduated from PWC in 1968, and went on to study at Maryknoll College (now Miriam College), where she gained a degree in Communications in 1973.
Later, Linda was granted a scholarship to New York University, where she graduated with an MBA in 1983.
